Bimatoprost uk is an eyedrop which has been approved by The FDA in America to grow lashes longer, fuller and darker for people with sparse or diffused eyelashes. It is also available in the UK as a prescription medication for hypotrichosis under the name of Latisse. However, unlike generic versions of the medication, Lumigan contains only the active ingredient bimatoprost 0.03% and is therefore unlicensed for any other purpose in the UK.
Lumigan works by mimicking a naturally-occurring molecule that regulates hair growth, which results in your eyelashes growing thicker and longer. This product is manufactured by Allergan and was originally developed as a treatment for glaucoma, although it soon gained popularity as a cosmetic treatment.
It is a prostaglandin analogue, which works by boosting the natural production of lash protein in order to promote the growth of your lashes. The 0.03% solution is applied to the lash line like eyeliner on a daily basis. Research has shown that it doubles lash thickness and makes them up to 25% longer and 18% darker within eight weeks of regular use.
The recommended dose is one drop into the affected eye(s) once a day, usually in the evening. You should always remove your contact lenses before applying the drops, and wait for 15 minutes before putting them back in. You can find further instructions on how to use the eye drops in the patient leaflet which comes with your medicine.
You may experience some side effects when using bimatoprost, such as itchy red eyes or the feeling that something is in your eye(s). If you notice any other side effects which are not mentioned in the patient leaflet, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist. bimatoprost uk
